My aspiration is to touch the memories of the viewer through the ideas and processes in my mind. To do so, I must take part in works that possess aesthetic beauty as well qualities that the viewer can personally relate to.
The world of inanimate objects fills my space, creating an endless realm of possibilities.
My drawings and paintings embody the passion I have for creating art, not only on a visual platform, but on a mental level as well. The idea of a piece is equally important, if not more, than the technical quality of the art. Along with images created from everyday things, ranging from desktop supplies to household furniture, my spectrum ranges to the outside world, introducing the recognizable, and memorable images that we know.
Since graduating from college in 2006, my art has ranged from portraits, pen and ink drawings, nudes, neon signs and controversial pieces that deconstruct some of our iconic figures. I typically work on multiple bodies of work at a time, which keeps ideas and thoughts flowing more consistently.
The projects I am currently working on:
“Seven Deadly Sins”-A series of portraits that break down the barriers of some of our famous and infamous heroes and villains. Each sin has a specific celebrity attached to it, as well as definition, and Latin root written across the canvas. The sins also bear the symbols of color and animal, specific to that particular vice. Each painting is done on a 36”x48” canvas, using acrylic and enamel paint.
“About Face”-A body of work dealing with portraits of anybody I can get a view of. The portraits are zoomed in on a particular portion of the face, so the viewer only has a partial glimpse. All portraits done in black and white, with pastels on paper. The composition of each piece creates a window for the viewer, almost voyeuristic, giving as little information as possible.
“Texas Lights”-A series of paintings done with gouache and minwax wood stain on paper, that deal with the historic and forgotten neon lights and signs throughout Texas. The days of runway light neon signs to attract your attention are long but forgotten with the now graphic driven monstrosities of today. Viewers receive a glimpse of the glory days, in this series that captures the essence of the seedy motels and smoke filled rooms, that once laid fame to these signs.
“Capture My Time”-A series of drawings done with graphite on paper, that embody the pureness of times past, and images that touch the soul. This series ranges from toys, to music, to pain, and even singing the blues.
